What’s up everyone, it’s Mike here with a Songwriting For Guitar Tip! This week is a follow-up to a video I posted a while ago on the metronome. I received a bunch of emails from people saying . . . .
"I understand the importance of a metronome. I'd love to use it but I just don’t know where to start.”
So today I’m gonna walk you through 3 ways that you can count with the metronome and start adding it into your practices.
I have my metronome set to 70 bpm (beats per minute). I could practice a basic major scale and count this as
1) 1 2 3 4
2) 1 & 2 & 3 & 4
3) 1 e and a 2 e and a 3 and a 4 e and a
If you’re finding the &’s tricky (especially on lower speed BPMs) just double the speed. So in this case, I’ll bump it up to 140bpm. Now the metronome is highlighting my 1 2 3 4 and &’s
Again, adding a metronome into your practices is not easy but absolutely crucial and beneficial!
